BCFC Semi-Finals  – Rewind

The two semi-finals last week provided some good junior action. Both games saw record fall. In the Saturday evening game at Langley the Rams Jevon Cottoy rewrote the BCFC and Rams record book with an outstanding performance. Jevon set a new BCFC record for receiving yards in a play-off game as he had 246 yards on 7 receptions. The old record of 204 was set by Victoria Rebels Will Sheils in 2003. He also set a new BCFC record for a play-off with 4 touchdown receptions. Jevon set a new Rams record for punt average in in a play-off game when averaged 40.0 yards Saturday. The old Rams record was 39.8 that Steve Thomas set in 2014. Jevon wasn’t done quite yet as his 4 touchdowns and 24 points set a Rams record a play-off game. In the same game. Jevon wasn’t the only Ram to establish new records as Anthony Blackwell set a new Rams record for defensive points in a play-off with 28. The old record was 27 that Arie Nakagawa accumulated in 2011. Anthony also tied Arie’s team record 12 tackles in a play-off game. Not to be out-done was quarterback Tristan Yanciw. Tristan stepped off the bench and passed for a Rams record 415 yards and record tying 4 TD passes. His yardage record broke the 291 yards that Shawn Olson threw for in a 10-9 win over the Okanagan Sun in 1994 and tied the 4 TD’s that Shawn connected on in 1995.

As a team, the Rams set a new passing yardage record, throwing for 431 yards. The old record was 319 in 2001. They also set a new record for total yards in a game with 517. The previous mark was set by the 2014 team when they put up 496 against the Kamloops Broncos.

The Raiders also had a bit of history as they had a couple outstanding performances. Jared Braun set a Raiders kick-off return yardage record when he had 154 on 4 returns. The old record was 121 that Andrew Harris set in 2009. Nik Hunchak also set a new Raiders record for the most punts in a play-off game when he had 13 punts Saturday. That bested the old mark of 10 that Scott Dixon had in 2005.

Up in Kelowna, there were also some records broken and tied. Sun running back Kelton Kouri ran for the second most rushing yards in a play-off game for the Sun as he raddled off 201 on 11 carries. The Sun record is held by Terrance Huston, who ran for 307 in a 31 to 7 win over the Surrey Rams in 1998. Kelton also scored 3 rushing touchdowns in the game which tied a Sun record for the most rushing TD’s in a play-off game. He tied the 3 that Jeff Halvorson scored against the Tri-City Bulldogs in 2003. Punter Isaac Wegner set a new BCFC record for the longest punt in a play-off game when he boomed one 71 yards last Sunday. The old record was 66 yards that South Fraser Rams punter James Schafer set in 2003.

The Huskers had a couple of record fall as linebacker Dawson Davis set two Huskers marks for defensive points and tackles in a play-off game. Dawson finished with 30 defensive points and had ten solo tackles in the game. His 30-point performance was second best in BCFC play-off history, just two-points behind the record of 32 that Ivan Kehler from the Abbotsford Air Force set in 1987 against the Okanagan Sun. Quarterback Julian Wegner set a new Huskers record for pass attempts in a play-off game when he attempted 39 passes against the Sun. The old record was 38 that Mike Derkach attempted in 2002 against the Sun. As a team, the Huskers tied a BCFC play-off record and set a Huskers record with 4 fumble returns.
