Game Notes

  • Neither QB expected to start Sunday has seen action against the opposing team. Keith Zyla went the distance in both games for the Sun and is now playing receiver. Matthew Mahler expected to get the start for the Sun. Rams head coach Howie Zaron said this week that Tristan Yanciw who came into the semi final and threw for 415 yards and 4 TDS after starter Duncan Little was injured will start Sunday despite Little being cleared to play.

  • Battle of the defence. Both Sun head coach Ben Macauley and Rams counterpart Howie Zaron have valid argument for each of their assertion that their respective clubs boasts the best defence in the conference. Stats below per game with conference rank in brackets.

    • *PTS against: Rams 15.9 (1st) Sun 16.4 (2nd)

    • *Yards against: Sun 251 (1st) Rams 275 (2nd)

    • *Passing against: Rams 215 (1st) Sun 227 (4th)

    • *Rushing against: Sun 68 (1st) Rams 84 (2nd)

    • *Sacks: Sun 3.4 (1st) Rams 2.8 (2nd)

    • Just 828 net offence in the two games played (avg 208 per team per game)

    • Most yards rushing by a running back in 2 games 44 yards

  • Players to watch

    • #15 Jevon Cottoy (REC-Rams) BCFC all star is coming off a monster game in the BCFC semi-final win over the VI Raiders where he had 7 catches for 246 yards and all 4 of the Rams TDS. Expect to see the Sun employ a lot of double coverage on #15 Sunday

    • #26 AJ Blackwell  (LB-Rams) Rams head coach Howie Zaron feels Blackwell is the best defensive player in the conference. With the run heavy Sun attack expected this weekend he will be in a lot of the action

    • #38 Kelton Kouri (RB-Sun) Kouri finished 2nd in the BCFC rushing derby and his workload has been increasing as the season has progressed, he average 8 carries per game over the first 5 weeks and just under 14 per game the last 6 games. He just had his best game of the year with 201 yards on 11 carries in the semi-final last week.

    • Nicholas Dheilly (DL-Sun) Dheilly led the conference with sacks (8) despite not playing the last 5 weeks after being injured in the second game against the Rams. He made a brief appearance in the semi-final, so safe to assume he will be on the field against the Rams. Whether making life miserable for the Rams passer or tying up the o-line due to double team efforts, he should be a difference maker Sunday.
