Week Eight  – Rewind

The win for the Okanagan Sun was their 290th in their franchise history. It took the Sun 360 games to reach that total. They are the leaders of all-time wins, along with the Vancouver Meralomas, who played from 1947-1957, 1959-1990, and is the only other team to record 200 wins in the 332 games they played. There are no current teams besides the Sun who have recorded 200 wins. The Langley Rams are two victories away from reaching 200.

Conor Richard blocked his 5th kick in the Sun win on Saturday. It moves him into second place behind Cameron Taylor of the 2007 Kamloops Broncos who blocked 6 that year. With the block Saturday, that gives him 8 in his BCFC career. That moves him into first place All-Time, one up on the Rebels Mike Kissinger who had 7.

The Sun now have 11 blocked kicks on the season. That ties their own team and BCFC record that was established in 2013.

Valley Huskers linebacker Dawson Davis had 10 tackles in the Huskers win over the Rebels Saturday. He now has 55 tackles on the season, which establishes a new Huskers record for tackles in a season. The old record was 44 that was set by Connor Smith in 2015. As well, Dawson has 128 defensive points so far on the season. That ties the Huskers record with David Bosch from 2008. With two games to go, it’s probably a sure bet that the record will be Dawsons

On This Day in the BCFC

October 6 / 7

1969 – October 6 – Vancouver Meralomas quarterback Blaine Fransen threw 5 touchdown passes in a 48-19 win over the Burnaby Spartans. Blaine threw 5 or more touchdowns passes in a game 5 times in his BCFC career.

1985 – October 6 – Running back Eric Scott of the Richmond Raiders established a BCFC record for the most points in a game when he scored 42 in a game against the Renfrew Trojans. Eric also established a BCFC record for the most touchdowns in a game with 6. All were rushing touchdowns which tied a BCFC record. The Raiders as a team also got their name in the record book, as they defeated the Trojans by a 95-14 score on this day. The 95-points set a then record for the most points in a game (since broken by the VI Raiders in 2007 when they put up 97 in a 97-0 win over the Kamloops Broncos). The total points scored between the Raiders and Trojans of 109, still stands as a BCFC record.

1985 – October 6 – Richmond Raiders place kicker Paul Osbaldiston set  two BCFC records in the Raiders win over the Trojans. He had 13 converts, still a record for the most converts in a game and had 14 kickoffs in the win. The kickoffs record has since been tied.

Greg wasn’t done as he rushed for a BCFC record 405 yards on 24 carries and scored four rushing touchdowns. The 405 rushing yards in a game is still a standing record. He is the only player to rush for more than 400 yards in a game.  His all-purpose yards were 418, as he had a 13-yard punt return in the game. He is only one of three players to surpass 400 total yards in a BCFC game. As a team the Rebels rushed for 416 yards in the 37-22 victory.
