Week Six  – Rewind

The Sun’s Conor Richard blocked two kicks against the Vancouver Island Raiders last weekend. The two blocks gives him 4 on the season, which establishes a new Sun season record. The 4 gives Conor 7 in his BCFC career and ties him for first place on the all-time kick block list with the Rebels’ Mike Kissinger (1998-2000).

Westshore Rebels’ Head Coach Shane Beatty got his first win as Rebels’ Head Coach. His Rebels’ record now stands at 1 win against 2 losses. Shane’s overall BCFC coaching record is 26 wins and 5 losses.

Vancouver Island Raiders’ quarterback Jake Laberge became only the 14th quarterback in BCFC history to reach 600 pass attempts in a career. Jake now has 602 pass attempts.

Raiders’ receiver Mike West had his best game as a junior as he had 197 receiving yards on 8 receptions against the Sun. The 197 yards is also the most since 2014. Mike’s previous best was 173 yards on 9 receptions in 2016.

Huskers’ quarterback Julian Wytinck had 28 completions in the game against Langley Saturday night. It was the second time this year that Julian completed 28 passes in a game. The 28 completions ties the Huskers’ game record.

 

On This Day in the BCFC

September 22

1974 – Victoria Dolphins punter Barry Stewart averaged 51.0 yards on 5 punts against the Vancouver Blue Bombers

1985Eric Scott of the Richmond Raiders had himself a tremendous game against the Victoria Payless. Eric put up 396   all-purpose yards, which was a BCFC that stood until 2007, when Ben Wilson of the Rams put up 405. Eric rushed for 338 yards on 35 carries in the game and had 58 receiving yards. The 338 rushing yards set a BCFC rushing record that stood until 2012, when the Rebels Greg Morris broke it with a 405-yard game. The 338 still stands as second best ever in the BCFC . His 35 carries set a Raiders’ record for most carries in a game.

1985 – Renfrew Trojans punter Tony Martino established a Trojans’ record for the longest punt in team history when he had a 75-yarder against the Vancouver Meralomas

1985 – Richmond Raider linebacker Gary Handley amassed 34 points in a game against Victoria Payless. The 34 points set a new BCFC record which stood until 1995 when Vancouver Trojans linebacker Cam Prout broke it with a 37-point performance.

 

1985 – Victoria Payless defensive back Murray Smith set a then team record for tackles in a game when he had 14 against the Richmond Raiders. The record was broken in 1989 when Troy Francis had 15.

1990 – The Surrey Rams defensive backs were ball hawks when they picked off 6 passes in a game against the Okanagan Sun

1997 – Sun running back Ron Arnold scored on a 90-yard long run against the Vancouver Island Sharks.

2001 – Vancouver Trojans Phil Iosef set a Trojans team record for sacks in a game when he registered 4 against Kamloops UCC Cowboys.

2001Dustin Nilsson of the Kamloops Cowboys had 323 total yards in a game against the Vancouver Trojans. Dustin had 30 yards rushing, 12 receiving yards, 144 kick-off return yards and 137 punt return yards. It was the second time in two weeks that Dustin put up over 300 total yards in a game.

2002 – Okanagan Sun place kicker Jason Cook set a then Sun record for the longest field goal when he hit a 53-yarder against the Valley Huskers. That record was broken in 2010 when Steven Shott booted a 57-yarder.

2002 - Matt Thiessen of the Abbotsford Air Force had 207 receiving yards on 6 receptions in a game against the Tri-City Bulldogs.

2002 – Sun place kicker Jason Cook established a still standing BCFC record for the most field goals in a game when he was good on 6 against the Valley Huskers.

2002 – Tri-City Bulldogs Ryan Payette had an 80-yard fumble return for a touchdown against the Abbotsford Air Force. It set a Bulldogs’ record for the longest fumble return.

2004 - Okanagan Sun running back James Green set a then Sun record for the longest run from scrimmage when he went 104-yards for a touchdown against the Victoria Rebels. The new record is 109 yards that was set in 2010 by Tore Tarcon.

2004 – Okanagan Sun running back James Green rushed for 206 yards on 15 carries in a game against the Victoria Rebels.

2007 – Vancouver Island Raiders defensive back Pete Adams returned an interception 92-yard for the major against the Vancouver Trojans

2007 – Kamloops Broncos receiver Chris Kleven was on the receiving end of a 97-yard pass from quarterback John Boulton in a game against the Chilliwack Huskers. At the time it was the longest pass and run in Broncos history. The new record is 106 yards when Rudy Uhl hooked up with QB Steve Schuweiler in 2014.

2012 Nick Downey of the Langley Rams returned a missed field goal 65 -yards in a game against the Vancouver Island Raiders

2012 – Vancouver Island Raiders kick returner Aaron Gordon retuned a kick off 100-yards for the touchdown against the Langley Rams.
