Week Three 2018 – The Standouts

Not a record, but Raiders QB Jake Laberge put on a clinic, completing 15 of 19 passes for 261 yards and three touchdowns in the second half, in leading the Raiders to 28 fourth quarter points in the 35 to 34 comeback victory over the Langley Rams. Jakes winning touchdown pass was the 30th of his BCFC career.

The Valley Huskers win over the Okanagan Sun Saturday was the first time they had beaten the Sun in a game. They did have another win over the Sun, albeit coming from a board room decision. In 2013, the Sun defeated the Huskers 65 to 10. However, the Sun forfeited the game when it was determined that the Sun had played a player who was registered with another team and had failed to secure a player release. The Huskers were awarded a 1 to 0 victory.

Okanagan Sun punt returner Cole Stregger set a new BCFC record for Most Punt Returns in a Game, when he returned 9 against the Huskers. The old record of 8 was shared by many. He also tied a Sun record for the Most Punt and Missed Field Goal Returns in a Game with the 9. He ties Rob Yochim who had 9 against the Westshore Rebels in 2011.

Valley Huskers receiver Brandon Poulin tied a BCFC and Huskers record for the Most Pass Receptions in a Game, when he caught 14 against the Sun. He is tied with Mike Serr, Meralomas (1989), Joe Orel, Vancouver Island Sharks (1995), Ben Wilson, South Fraser Big Kahuna Rams (2007), Blake Draper, Valley Huskers (2014), Marshall Cook, V.I. Raiders (2014) and Derek Yachison of the Kamloops Broncos (2015).

Maximilian Joseph of the Langley Rams returned his 50 punt of his career Saturday against the V.I. Raiders. The 50 move him into a tie for 10th place on the BCFC career list of punt returns. 42 of his returns came last season when he played with the Kamloops Broncos.

Vancouver Island Raider receiver Hugh Rainey caught 12 passes against the Rams. It is the second most pass receptions in a game for the Raiders. The record for the Raiders is 14 by Marshall Cook in 2014, who set the record also against the Rams.

Huskers quarterback Julian Whytinck completed 28 passes in the Husker win over the Okanagan Sun. That ties a Huskers record for the Most Pass Completions in a Game, with Noah Falconer who competed 28 against the Westshore Rebels in 2015

Isaac Wegner of the Okanagan Sun set a new Sun record for the Most Punts in a Game. Isaac punted 14 times on last Saturday which broke the old Sun record of 13 that was shared by Andy Leeson (2001) and Kealey Heintz (2016)

Huskers punter Spencer Breslin tied a Huskers record for the Most Punts in a Game, when he had 14 punts in the game against the Sun. He ties Ryan Mauch who had 14 in 1999 against Abbotsford.
