The Westshore Rebels wanted no surprises on Saturday and they got none, much to their satisfaction.

The B.C. Football Conference match-up in Chilliwack featured the Rebels (8-1) against the winless Valley Huskers (0-9), with the Island club prevailing 42-17.

“It would have made the [Huskers’] whole season if they beat us. . . they battle hard and can be dangerous,” Rebels head coach, Charly Cardilicchia, said.

“We wanted to stay focused. It was important we not look ahead to next Saturday night [the hotly anticipated home game at Westhills Stadium against the Okanagan Sun that will decide the BCFC regular-season title].”

It was mission accomplished in the Fraser Valley for the defending league champions and 2016 Canadian runners-up.

The Rebels’ goal was to build a big lead, which they did by taking a 35-7 advantage into the half-time break, and resting several of their starters in the second half. Starting quarterback Scott Borden aired out two touchdown passes.

“Scott managed the game well,” Cardilicchia said.

Two Westshore touchdowns were scored by the defence, which is always a bonus, with Daniel Clarke returning an interception to the house and lineman Jeremie Drouin recording two sacks and a major.

The host Sun (7-0-1) were playing the Langley Rams (4-4) at the Apple Bowl and the Vancouver Island Raiders (4-3-1) were meeting the Broncos (1-7) in Kamloops in Saturday’s other g
