This column is for opinion purposes only and does not necessarily reflect the opinions of the British Columbia Football Conference or its teams.

The weekend after Labour Day in the BCFC seems eerily similar to the Game of Thrones season that just wrapped up. Winter is coming and some kingdoms (teams) are getting closer to bending the knee to others or being annihilated altogether. Well, maybe it’s not like GOT, but I was binge watching that show the second time this weekend with no BCFC or BC Lions to take in.

If winter is coming so is fall and that means the end of the football season is around the corner, so let’s see what will happen in the BCFC the next few weeks, or at least what could happen. I could come up with a list of what definitely will happen, but that would be too easy.

  • Sept 9
    • Birhanu Yitna (Rebels) will have over 140 yards and 2 TDS receiving as his club defeats the Kamloops Broncos at home.
  • Sept 16
    • The offensive and special team BCFC BC Lions players of the week will come out of the Langley Rams win over the Kamloops Broncos in Langley. Nathan Lund (Rams) will be named the offensive player of the week while  Maximilian Joseph takes the special team nod for the Broncos.

  • Sept 23
    • The Langley Rams will drop a heartbreaker to the Westshore Rebels as a field goal in the last minute gives the visiting Rebels a 2 point win.
    • Broncos quarterback Colby Henkel will throw 3 touchdown passes but also 3 interceptions against the Okanagan Sun secondary at Hillside Stadium.

  • Sept 30
    • Brycen Mayoh (Raiders) will break the BCFC record for combined punt/field goal return yards in a season with one game to spare against the Kamloops Broncos. Mayoh currently sits with 449 combined yards, while the conference mark set by James Green (Okanagan Sun) 1031 yards.
    • Danny Harris (Huskers) will have his second two interception game of the season. This one against the Westshore Rebels as he picks off Scott Borden twice.

  • October 7
    • The Okanagan Sun will complete its 10th undefeated season by beating the Westshore Rebels at Westhill Stadium in a battle for first place.
    • The Valley Huskers will come up short by a touchdown or less in a loss to the Kamloops Broncos to go winless for the 3rd consecutive season.
    • The VI Raiders will limit the Langley Rams to under 85 yards rushing and defeat the Rams to finish in 3rd place in the BCFC.
    • Isaac Wegner (Sun) will break the conference record of 85.7% field goal percentage (min 10 attempts). His 11 of 13 to date has him at an 84.6% clip. Conversely, James Parker (Raiders) who is presently at 9 of 10 will fall back a bit and finished under 84% on the season.

  • BCFC major award winners
    • The conference will announce its major award winners prior to the playoffs and among them will be;
      • Ben Macauley (Sun)-Coach of the Year
      • Maximilian Joseph (Broncos)-Rookie of the Year
      • Conor Richard (Sun)-Outstanding defensive player
      • Brycen Mayoh (Raiders)- Outstanding offensive player

Road bet of the week. This isn’t easy as I truly expect the home clubs to sweep. The enigma that is the Broncos I would normally give a fighting chance at home against the Rebels, but not when they are the team taking the ferry. If the Langley Rams are going to keep clicking and have a better second half of the season, it must and will start this weekend against the Huskers so the children of the corn will get husked for sure. I don’t like the Raiders chances at the Apple Bowl against the Sun, but if they get something going against a middling Sun offensive line, (I’m talking to you Quinton Bowles) and if Brycen Mayoh can make things happen on special teams, they have a shot. Take the Raiders, but keep in mind they are fighting uphill on this one.
