Week 5 – BCFC Players of the Week

Offense – Nathan Lund, RB-Langley Rams

8 carries, 82 yards, 1 TD

6 receptions, 109 yards, 1TD

The Langley Rams played a game that was critical to their play-off aspirations this past Saturday in Kamloops against the Broncos and came away with a huge win, thanks in no small part to running back Nathan Lund. Lund spent most of the 2016 season on the injured list and the Rams were counting on him returning to form this season, and he has been up to the task. He turned in his best performance in 3 years against the Broncos as he was a force running and catching the ball for his club.

Defense – Linebacker, Eli Haynes-Okanagansun

9 tackles, 1 special team tackle, 1 batted ball, 1 forced fumble

The Okanagan Sun defense has arguably been the best in the BCFC this season and Saturday it turned in what was called a “smothering” performance in limiting the VI Raiders to just 143 yards net offense. Kelowna native Eli Haynes is often overlooked in a veteran laden group, but his team mates know full well his value to the groups success. Now, the rest of the BCFC is likely a little more aware as well.

Special Teams-Returner, Javen Kaechele-Okanagan Sun

1 kick return for 105 yards and TD

Sun rookie Javen Kaechele had just the one return Saturday against the Raiders but it came at a pivotal point in the game. The Raiders had just kicked a second quarter field goal to cut a Sun lead to 14-3 and the Sun chose to receive a kick off rather than scrimmage the ball at it’s own 35. Head coach ben Macauley played it right as Kaechele took the kick off 105 yards and in the process put the game a bit out of reach for the Raiders.
