“Awards dinner”

After another disappointing loss on Saturday against the VI Raiders the Huskers were ready to put the season behind them and look toward the future at the wrap up dinner held on Sunday at the Coast Hotel.  There were many accomplishments this past season to celebrate.  The players were recognised for their tenacity, good sportsmanship and dedication to the Huskers football club by President Covey.  The coaches were also praised by the President for their loyalty and accomplishments this past season.

Awards were presented to the following recipients:  Team MVP #4 Mike West, Offensive MVP #9 Noah Falconer, Defensive MVP #34 Brendan Atkinson, Special Team MVP #82 Blake Draper, Lineman of the Year #92 Travis Dietrich, Offensive Rookie of the Year #81 Elijah Falconer, Defensive Rookie of the Year #44 Mason Palek, Coach’s Award #62 Duncan Finch, Most Inspirational #36 Gary Lumeka, Most Improved Player #48 Landon Rayburn.

For the first time two players were honored by the Knights of Columbus this year.  Both Travis Dietrich and Adam Wagner were awarded the K of C annual Sportsmanship Awards.

Acting GM, Moe Agagnier recognised the players who have reached the age limit, 22, set by the league to compete in the BC Junior Football Conference and must move on. They are: #34 Brenden Atkinson, #52 Kyle Cummings, #62 Duncan Finch, #10 Jason Ghag, #27 Hayden Jeffery, #36 Gary Lumeka, #59 Keegan Montgrand, # 58 Conner Smith, # 51 Jesse Smith, #41 Erik Stevenson and #23 James Sturgeon.

Irene Spalding presented a bouquet of flowers, on behalf of the club, to Jennifer Campbell for her extraordinary commitment to the billets and the club over the past season.   A big “Thank You” was extended to the management and staff of the Coast Hotel for a fine dinner from a very supportive sponsor.

Many handshakes and bear hugs followed a great pasta meal and the players were on their way home with promises of “keeping in touch” and a “better year next year”!
