British Columbia Football Conference
BC Lions Players of the Week for week
Offensive player of the week
Jamel Lyles / RB / Westshore Rebels
16 carries 184 yards & 4 TDS
2 receptions for 14 yards
One of the best running backs ever to suit up in the BCFC was at it again Saturday night in Langley. In a game that clinched first place for his club, Jamel Lyles proved he was simply too much for the Rams defense.
This is Lyles 4th offensive player of the week award to go along with one special teams nod as well earlier in the season.
He is just 147 yards shy of breaking the conference single season rushing record with the final game up this Saturday against the Kamloops Broncos.
The voting for offensive and defensive players of the year takes place in just over a week. Let’s just save the people voting time and pencil the name Jamel Lyles in the offensive category now.
Defensive player of the week
Dexter Shea / LB / VI Raiders
9 tackles / 1 assist / 1 interception
The VI Raiders defense has been strong all season but has taken its game up the last couple weeks in taking 3 of a possible 4 points against two teams ahead of them in the standings.
The leader of the Raiders defense had a stellar outing as his club shut down the Okanagan Sun Saturday afternoon. Shea was all over the field making tackles for the Raiders as he made the Canadian size football field look a whole lot smaller to the Sun offense.
Special Teams player of the week
Tiernan Docherty / Kicker-punter / Langley Rams
5 punts 35.8 average
5 for 5 FGS / 2 for 2 converts
The Langley Rams were within 2 points of the Westshore Rebels with just over 1 minute to play, largely on the strength and accuracy of the leg of Tiernan Docherty.
Had the Rams defense been able to turn back the last Rebels drive before it found the end zone you have to wonder if Docherty would have been able to give the Rams the W with a last second field.
He was pretty much perfect all afternoon.
