Reporters from BCFC cities give their two cents on how the teams are going to fair this week. Thanks to Marty Hastings (Kamloops this Week), Warren Henderson (Kelowna Daily Courier), Eric Welsh (Chilliwack Progress), Gary Ahuja (Langley Times) and Don Descoteau (Goldstream Gazette)

We have a full slate of reporters this week as Don is back from holidays. An interesting weekend in that if the VI Raiders can pull an upset in Kelowna we have serious potential for a 4 way first place tie. Of course to assume that we aren’t giving much credence to the Valley Huskers or Kamloops Broncos chances of upsets over the Rams or Rebels.

Let’s see what the scribes think…

VI Raiders @ Okanagan Sun

Marty: Okanagan will be too much for VI on home turf.

Sun 27 Raiders 18

Warren: The Sun and Raiders are both getting sharper with each outing, but look for team depth and home field advantage to be the difference on Saturday night at the Apple Bowl.

The Sun stays undefeated with a 32-19 win.

Eric: VI spotted the Huskers a 17 point lead before roaring back for a home win last week. If they try to pull the same trick against the Sun, they'll get buried. The Sun are flying high and playing at home and will keep their perfect record intact against a flawed Raider squad.

Sun 34 Raiders 17

Gary: The Raiders got a scare in week three, trailing 17-0 after one quarter against the winless Valley Huskers, but found their game for the rest of the three quarters, outscoring Valley 55-7.

The Sun are a different team than the Huskers however, and Okanagan is coming off a huge 27-21 win over the previously unbeaten Westshore Rebels.

Okanagan 32 VI 14

Don: The battle between last year’s BCFC finalists promises to be another heated battle. After scoring just one offensive touchdown against Westshore, quarterback Foster Martens and the Sun (3-0) will aim for more production against the Raiders (2-1). The Nanaimo squad has allowed nearly 30 points a game and sports a somewhat misleading 2-1 record, with its two victories coming against still-winless teams, games sandwiched around a lopsided loss to the Rebels.

Boosted by the home crowd, the Sun will click in this game, winning 32-18.

Westshore Rebels @ Kamloops Broncos

Marty: The Broncos took a step back last weekend and Westshore will be looking to rebound from its first loss of the season.

Rebels 42 Broncos 14

Warren: After a six-point loss to the defending BCFC champion Sun, look for the Rebels to bounce back in a big way in Kamloops. The Broncos, reeling from a 51-7 drubbing in Langley, won't have much luck stopping Jamel Lyles and the Rebels offense.

Westshore takes it 37-17

Eric: Jamel Lyles and his Rebels had their first taste of adversity, losing in Kelowna last weekend. They'll try to bounce back against a Bronco team that is highly motivated to crack the win column. It's hard to bet against the superstar sizzle Lyles brings, and he'll be the difference in this one.

Rebels 31 Broncos 21

Gary: The Rebels nearly rallied in week three, trailing 17-0 against the Okanagan Sun before cutting the lead to 20-14. They would lose 27-21.The Broncos mustered just 130 yards of offence in a 51-7 loss to the Langley Rams.

Westshore 48 Kamloops 10

Don: While they had a rough start against Okanagan last weekend, the Rebels (2-1) were a couple of plays away from winning the ballgame. Westshore is clearly a better team this season, with depth and talent on defence, including this week’s defensive player-of-the-week Kent Hicks and some explosive playmakers on offence like league leading rusher Jamel Lyles, fellow running back Trey Campbell and receiver Lerenzo Ihanza. On paper at least Kamloops (0-3) has struggled thus far and will likely be overpowered by the visitors this weekend. Then again, home field advantage might cushion the beating somewhat.

Expect the Rebels to win comfortably, 42-17.

Valley Huskers @ Langley Rams

Marty: Langley had a huge game last weekend and should roll over the Huskers.

Rams 48 Huskers 10

Warren: The Rams put up 51 points last week against Kamloops, while the winless Huskers yielded 55 in Nanaimo, so expect the trend to continue this Saturday in Langley.

Rams 52 Huskers 10.

Eric: After being blown out at home, to put it kindly, by the Rams in week two, who could possibly suggest the Huskers would fare better in the hostile confines of McLeod Athletic Park?

The Huskers weren't even slightly competitive in the previous meeting. Even if they've improved, they are still massive underdogs.

 Langley 48 Chilliwack 13

Gary: The Huskers put together a solid first half in week three, scoring 17 points in the first quarter and leading 17-10 against the VI Raiders. But the second half saw the defence implode, allowing 45 points in a 55-24 loss.

The Rams defence has been great the past two weeks, allowing a combined 244 yards of total offence. That includes Langley’s 39-0 victory over the Huskers in week two. Expect more of the same in week four as Langley will win its fourth straight while the Huskers fall to 0-4.

Final score: Langley 45 Huskers 7

Don: The Rams (2-1) manhandled the Huskers (0-3) two games ago in winning 39-0 in Chilliwack and expectations are that things won’t change much for this contest in Langley. Both teams have no doubt improved in their three starts, and offensive POW Mike West’s nine reception/2TD performance for the Huskers against the Raiders last weekend was impressive. But the Rams will show they’ve made bigger strides on Saturday.

Expect another one-sided affair with Langley scoring a 42-17 win.
