Week three saw the game of the week in Kelowna between the Sun and Rebels deliver as promised. In Nanaimo the Huskers had the foot on the throat of the home town Raiders but could not finish the damage and saw a 17-0 1st quarter lead fade away.
At the end of the weekend we have the Sun out on front of the conference and the Rebels, Raiders and Langley Rams in a 2-1 dogfight.
Lets look at winners and losers from the weekend.
Winner – Langley Rams
A successful night for the Rams as they celebrated Joe Connelly, North Surrey Minor Football coach and 2016 B.C. Lions Orange Helmet Pioneer Award winner. Not only did the Rams defeat the Kamloops Broncos 55 to 7 in a convincing manner, but the victory was the 185th in Rams history.
Loser – Players flaunting the BCFC dress code
Volunteers put a lot of time into raising funds to operate BCFC teams. Players who disregard the BCFC dress code rules end up getting their teams fined and the precious monies raised has to be used to pay those fines. Think about it!! This takes away from club operating expenses. Come on fellas tuck ‘em in and pull ‘em up.
Winner- Kamloops Broncos Jordan Angove
Jordan became the first player in BCFC history to have two 200 or more kickoff return yardage games in the same season. The 223 Jordan had against the Rams Saturday night goes along with the 243 yards he gained in the first game of the season. At this pace, Jordan should have no problem breaking the current BCFC record of 896 kickoff return yards
Loser – BCFC Teams
Teams complain about the dress code fines, so take control and demand that your players follow the BCFC dress code rules. Who’s actually in charge?
Winner – Okanagan Sun Raquille Cespedes
Raquille set a BCFC record for the longest missed field goal return and became the first player to return a missed field goal for a touchdown since the category was created in 2009. His effort covered 120 yards. Outstanding!
Loser – Team Penalties
Becoming a regular feature in Winners and Losers are the high number of penalties that teams commit each week. Although the yardage is down compared to last week, 705, the number of penalties is still high at 98. Average this week 32 per game for 235 yards. Come on guys, fans are tired of all the laundry that litters the field each week.
Winner – Vancouver Island Raiders Nathan Berg
Nathan put the Raiders on his back Saturday afternoon and carried them to a 55 to 24 comeback win over the Valley Huskers. Nathan had just under 100 second half rushing yards and scored three times in the second half rally.
Loser – Social Media
We all know the importance of social media in our lives today. It can be used positively to help promote or it can be used as a tool to destroy. When it comes to the players doing some chest pumping between teams, give it some thought. Teams will use it as fuel to get fired up and anyways, as you are typing like Tarzan, you’ll inevitably end up playing like Jane.
