Winners and losers

Week two is in the books and the 2016 BCFC season is starting to shape up as many thought. The Huskers are struggling between the hashmarks and the Rebels are looking like the team to beat.

Winners and losers from week 2:

Winner – The Westshore Rebels

For the first time ever, the Rebels finally defeated the Raiders. After 23 consecutive regular season losses dating back to 2005, the Rebels completely dominated the shocked Raiders by a 45 to 22 score.

Loser – Team Penalties

Following Week One where the three games produced a total of 99 penalties for 925 yards, or 33 penalties a game for 308, the teams came out this week with an encore. The three games produced 103 penalties for 929 yards. It’s no wonder games are taking close to three and a half hours to play.

Winner – Rebels crowd

Over 1500 spectators showed up to watch the Rebels in their historic win. When the “warm up the bus” chant got going late in the game, it was like all 1500 in attendance had joined in song. Very loud and impressive.

Loser – Rebels internet broadcast

What internet broadcast?  There wasn’t one. One of the best games in Rebels history, their first win against their natural Island rival, and no internet broadcast. How can that be? Hopefully for future games the Rebels can get set up. There was plenty of interest leading up to the game and I’m sure for many of interested fans who weren’t able to make it to the game, they would have loved to tune in.

Winner-Valley Huskers Commitment

Good to see the Huskers are finally getting some depth. By all accounts the Huskers are registering more and starting to get their player numbers up.

Loser – Dancing Nanaimo fan

The unidentified obnoxious fan that stood directly behind the Rebels bench taunting them, showed why it isn’t a good idea to consume alcohol if you have a low IQ. The little dance display that was directed at a BCFC representative, might have seemed funny, but was actually quite sad.

Winner – Kamloops Home Opener Crowd

Despite having to sit through periods of heavy rain, the home crowd at Hillside Stadium were pounding those metal bleachers making their usual thunderous noise that at times rivaled the thunder storm that delayed the start of the game.

Loser – Mercy Rule

Another mercy rule went into effect during the Rams 39 to 0 win over the Huskers Saturday night. Another missed opportunity to allow the back-ups to experience some quality reps.

Winner – Westshore Rebels Running Back Jamel Lyles

After putting up 308 total yards in the Rebels first game last week, Jamel responded with 292 total yards this week against the Raiders. Of the 292, 270 were rushing yards. He’s the real deal and brings to mind former Raiders running back Andrew Harris.

Loser – Okanagan Sun Team Penalties

You’ve gotta be kidding. The Sun had a new BCFC record 314 penalty yards in the game against the Broncos. They become the first team in BCFC history to have over 300 yards in penalties in a single game. That’s almost three full football fields of lost yardage. Not something the Sun organization has been known for.
